Venezuela, Thekabarnews.com – Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez called for the immediate release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, on Saturday. Many Venezuelans want President Maduro to be free after the U.S. military took him into custody. They are expressing their demands for justice and sovereignty.
She said that the U.S. military operation that led to their arrest was a “brutal kidnapping” and a violation of international law. Rodríguez asked for this just a few hours after the US confirmed that Maduro and Flores had been arrested in an operation. This operation took place in Caracas and other parts of Venezuela.
Washington has defended the arrests by accusing Maduro, Flores, and other high-ranking Venezuelan officials of involvement in drug trafficking, narco-terrorism, and other serious crimes.
The Venezuelan government has strongly denied these claims. Rodríguez said on state television station VTV during a meeting of the National Defense Council, “We demand the immediate release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.”
She said that Maduro was “the only real president of Venezuela.” Rodríguez, who was with high-ranking government officials, called the arrests kidnapping. She said the US had broken international law and launched a “brutal attack” on Venezuela’s territorial integrity.
The government declares external state of emergency
Rodríguez also said that the government would write a decree declaring a “foreign emergency.” The Supreme Court of Venezuela will have to approve this. She told people to be ready to protect the country, but she did not say how.
“We want to keep life safe. No Venezuelan, man or woman, should stay quiet. History and justice will punish the fanatics who started this armed attack on our country,” Rodríguez said.
She also told leaders in Latin America to back Venezuela and warned that the same thing could happen to other countries. Rodriguez added, “What has happened to Venezuela can happen to any country. Brutal force can be used anywhere to make people do what you want.”
The arrests have made things much worse between Caracas and Washington. Additionally, international observers are warning that the whole region could feel the effects. The situation includes impacts in terms of politics, the economy, and security.
